If I start by stating that this 90 - minute drama is written by Jimmy McGovern, then those that are familiar with his work will realise that they will be in for 90 minutes of gut-wrenching emotion.

Could you ever forgive a family member for committing the most heinous crime against another family member? This drama certainly tests the limits of human empathy. It will have you questioning your own ethics and morality and maybe even have you flip-flopping from one point of view to another.

McGovern always generates a great cast for his dramas and this is no exception. There are some amazing performances led by the Annas - Maxwell-Martin and Friel.

There is no denying that this is a difficult watch that is unflinching in its depiction of child abuse and the consequences it has for a whole family.

Unforgivable is available on BBC iPlayer
